Pinochle is a strategic card game that is played with a deck of 48 cards. The game is designed for two to four players, and it involves bidding, trick-taking, and melding. The goal of the game is to score a certain number of points by taking tricks and making melds.
Starting the Game
To begin playing Pinochle, each player is dealt 12 cards. The remaining 12 cards are placed in a stockpile in the center of the table. The top card from the stockpile is turned over to start the discard pile. The player to the left of the dealer goes first.
Bidding
In Pinochle, players bid on the number of points they think they can earn during hand play. The minimum bid is 20, and bids are made in increments of 10. Bidding continues clockwise until all players have had a chance to bid or pass.
Trick-Taking
After the bidding is completed, the player who made the highest bid becomes the declarer. The declarer leads with a card, and the other players follow suit. If a player does not have a card in the suit led, they can play any card. The highest card of the suit led wins the trick. The player who takes the trick leads the next trick.
