2023-04-21
Chkobba is a popular card game that originated in Tunisia. It is a trick-taking game that can be played with 4 or 6 players using a traditional deck of 52 cards. The objective of the game is to score the most points by winning tricks and collecting specific cards.

How to Play Chkobba:

1. Deck Preparation: Remove Jokers, shuffle the deck and determine the dealer. The dealer shuffles the deck and deals 3 cards to each player in a clockwise direction.

2. Trump Suit: After the first round of dealing, the player sitting to the dealer's right chooses the trump suit. If they pass, the opportunity to choose the trump suit passes to the next person in a clockwise direction.

3. Card Rankings: The card rankings for the trump suit differ from the non-trump suit. The rankings from the highest to the lowest are Ace, Ten, King, Queen, Jack, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three and Two. The rankings for non-trump suits are Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three and Two.

4. Gameplay: The player to the dealer's left plays the first card. The other players in a clockwise direction must follow suit if possible. If a player cannot follow suit, they can play any card. The player who plays the highest-ranking card in the trump suit wins the trick. If no trump cards were played, the highest-ranking card in the non-trump suit wins the trick.

5. Collecting Points: One point is awarded to the team that wins each trick. Certain cards also have a specific point value. The Ace, Ten, King and Queen of the trump suit are worth 5 points each. The Jack of the trump suit is worth 10 points while the Nine is worth 14 points. If a team manages to collect all the point cards, they are awarded an additional 50 points.

6. Winning the Game: The game continues until one team reaches 21 points. The team with the highest score at the end of the round wins.

Additional Rules:

- Reneging: If a player has a card of the same suit as the lead card but chooses to play a different suit, they have reneged. The player's team loses all the points for that trick.

- Chkobba: If a player wins the last trick of the round with the Nine of the trump suit, it is called a Chkobba. The player's team is awarded 9 bonus points.

- Sbaa: If a player wins all 6 tricks in a round, it is called an Sbaa. The player's team is awarded 50 bonus points.

Conclusion:

Chkobba is an exciting card game that requires strategy and skill. It is a popular game in Tunisia and is played by people of all ages. With simple rules and exciting gameplay, it is no wonder that Chkobba has gained popularity beyond Tunisia's borders.
